Women Representation in Public Office

by anak8086

Zambia’s Non-Governmental Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC). congratulates the new president of Zambia and calls on him to foster peace, reconciliation and unity among all Zambians. NGOCC also looks forward to the President Upholding the 50/50 Representation of women and men by appointing a female Vice President and more women in positions of decision making.
This week on “Voices of Anakazi” we are speaking to Mrs Engwase Mwale who is the Executive Director of NGOCC. She has been at the helm of the organisation for the past few years as an advocate for gender equality and equity in Zambia. The organisation is active in championing the empowerment of women and the advancement of the status of women in the country. Her work in community mobilisation with member organisations in both rural and urban settings has contributed to her engagement with women of diverse backgrounds, especially having undergone training in advocacy and citizen engagement, gender and development and community reporting for impact. NGOCC has been a vocal critic of the National Constitution Conference (NCC) and did not participate in the process. In their analysis the provisions of the NCC Act were not entirely clear about repealing and replacing the current constitution or even about holding a national referendum to include the expanded Bill of Rights (which is a requirement under the law).
